Change of Pace for New Manager

Christadelphian Aged Care Homes

Chamberlain Gardens’ new Facility Manager swapped the emergency room for aged care and hasn’t looked back.

Sue Thacker moved from Tasmania to the Central Coast and has fallen in love with her new beach lifestyle.

She previously worked in as an emergency room nurse and then moved into infection control, before becoming the Director of Clinical Governance at a Home in Hobart.

While there was less adrenaline working in aged care compared with a hospital emergency room, Sue loves being able to provide well-rounded care.

“I love making a difference. I love the people and I actually love providing holistic care, from their mental well-being to their clinical care. They rely on me for every aspect of their lives, and I like that and take that quite seriously,” she said.

“A lot of them haven’t got families, so I’m there to take care of them.”

Sue has just guided the Home through the three-yearly accreditation process, and they passed all 44 standards with flying colours.

“The team there are exceptional, they have a lot of experience and the staff just give their heart and soul,” she said.

“In five years time I want Chamberlain Gardens to be the flagship of Christadelphian Aged Care, to be the best facility and the one people look to.”
