Rodney from Maranatha has built a fulfilling life centred around family, hard work and adventure. Here is his story:“I was born at the Royal Brisbane Hospital and grew up in Chermside with my parents Percy and Doris, and brother and sister until I was 23. I attended Chermside State School then attended the Industrial High School in the city.
When I left school, I became a message boy at an advertising agency, I remember seeing the Regent Theatre change to cinema scope projection, it was quite fascinating. I completed a printing apprenticeship and after 30 years I retired from printing Australian newspapers.
Throughout the years, I enjoyed playing squash, tennis and lawn bowls and was a part of a Probus club. I met my wife Helen at the age of 21 and we were married at the Kedron Presbyterian Church when I was 24. Helen and I went on to have two children Stephen and Victoria, both Stephen and Victoria had two children also, a boy and a girl each. I also have two Great Grandchildren which are also a boy and girl.
Helen and I enjoyed travelling which we travelled throughout Australia including Tasmania and I really enjoyed all the national parks. We travelled to Europe and many other countries. I must say Scotland would have to be one of my favourites. When Helen and I got married, we built a house in Boondall and lived there for 23 years until we moved to Petrie. Our next adventure was Figtree Village in Murrumba Downs and now I am living at Maranatha.
Since living here at Maranatha, I have made new friendships with residents and staff. Thank you for getting to know a little bit about me.”
